What is HEROBREAK?
HEROBREAK is a comic made using reader suggestions. The readers act to influence the decisions the characters make. You can join in too!
How do I play?
Read up to the latest page and drop a comment making a suggestion for what you think should happen next. Alternatively you can visit the comic’s forum thread over on mspa and drop a comment there.
You can direct your suggestions at specific characters if you like, ie. “JOE, try to impress Mina with an awesome dance”. I can’t guarantee that all comments will be followed, but I’ll try to take as much guidance from user input as I can within bounds of what feels right for the characters. Also sometimes a comment suggestion will be followed a few pages after it has been made.
Is this something to do with Homestuck or Problem Sleuth?
The format and structure are very strongly influenced by Andrew Hussie’s comics on mspaintadventures.com particularly Homestuck, and it started out on the mspa forums, but it’s a completely original story with a different premise, original characters and an overall different sort of feeling. It’s like how the game ‘Quake’ was based on the gameplay of ‘Doom’, and shared a bunch of characteristics, but it had a different graphical style, unrelated story and a different kind of atmosphere. It’s a comic of the same format as Homestuck, and it similarly features a cast of characters who are sort of chromatically organised and talk a lot and are on a quest, but past that you’ll find they’re two rather different reading experiences.
